Inappropriate Humor
I sometimes wonder what’s wrong with me. Whenever something bad happens, my mind automatically finds the humor in the situation. The problem is, it’s usually inappropriate and insensitive to make jokes about bad things happening to people, but I can’t help it. I usually keep them to myself and then people wonder why I’m laughing for no reason.
For example, a tornado just hit a boy scout camp and killed 4 kids and injured a bunch more, and the first thought that popped into my head was “Wow, I guess they weren’t prepared for that, eh?”
You see what I mean? That’s the kind of joke that could get you beat up in some places.
When I read that Ted Kennedy had a brain tumor, I thought “I wonder if they had to do a colonoscopy to find that thing…” That’s not quite as bad as the boy scouts, since it’s more acceptable to make fun of a dying politician than it is a bunch of kids.
Of course, inappropriate humor is especially funny because it’s inappropriate. Everybody knows the cancer/alzheimer’s joke, right? We laugh because it makes us uncomfortable to hear or think something so insensitive.
