Real Estate Blues
I’m currently sitting in my office at work. It’s 87 degrees in my office, and climbing.
We are in a building that can only be described as the red-headed stepchild of the complex. They haven’t done any real maintenance since we’ve been here. The air conditioner was out for months last year, and now it seems to be out again.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t tolerate heat well, and certainly not sitting in one place for 10 hours in it.
Meanwhile, the chucklehead landlords have informed us that we must start paying them 2-3 times what we’re currently paying. Needless to say, that does not sound like a great option to us. The guy just called me and said they wanted a new lease in place by August 31st. That would be less than two weeks away.
I told him that in addition to his building sucking, so did his landlord and the horse they all rode in on. I hate to make a major change because I’m backed into a corner, but I’m absolutely unwilling to pay market rates in a building with crumbling staircases and no air conditioning.
So, landlords, if you’re reading this, you can take your lease and tamp it in your ear.
