Why Get Married?
40% of babies born in the United States last year were born to unwed mothers. This presents us with an interesting discussion. Especially since the unwed teenager stat actually went DOWN last year. A majority of those babies were born to women in their twenties.
Hmmmm.
So, one of two things is true. 1) Women in their twenties are stupid and have forgotten how to practice safe sex. 2) Women aren’t having the babies out of wedlock on accident.
I’m inclined to choose option 2. The statistics show the age people get married is continually getting later and later. Is it because people have wised up and realize it’s idiotic to get married young? I doubt it. I think people have decided living together and having babies without being married is a-ok. Advisable, even.
Heck, even my grandmother (unintentionally) has said “You just can’t know someone until you’ve lived with them.” She’s not suggesting “living in sin,” she’s suggesting that people’s many foibles don’t become apparent in the “fantasy-world” of dating.
She’s right.
It would appear that most people in my generation have figured that out… so they’re just popping out babies without shame. Women who can hear the biological clock ticking are having “donor” babies…
It’s a very odd world we live in…
