Definitely a Nerd… or Maybe a Pimp
I’m posting this entry from the Man Room. And I’m writing it on a computer hooked to a 42″ high def TV. Sitting on the couch. With wireless keyboard and mouse. The computer is about the size of a brick. I found it on Craigslist. It’s a brand I’ve never even heard of, however it seems loaded.
It’s an ASUS. Yeah, I’ve never heard of them either.
But get a load of the specs:
- Pentium Dual Core 2.50 Ghz
- Windows Vista Premium 64 bit
- 640 GB Disk
- 4 GB 800 Mhz RAM
- 7 USB Ports (3 front, 4 rear)
- HDMI and DVI Video
- 2 Firewire Ports
- Slot load DVD/RW
- Integrated Wireless N Lan
- Integrated 2.4 Ghz Keyboard & Mouse
So I checked these babies out on the web, and apparently they’re pretty cheap even when they’re new – run about $600. However, on Craigslist, they’re much cheaper.
I’m still working out the bugs. Haven’t gotten file sharing working yet with my main computer upstairs, but they can see each other… just won’t let me in. I think it’s a firewall issue.
Anyhow, hopefully this will be the first of many posts from the man room.
And when I’m finished posting, the simple press of a button on my Harmony 880 remote, and I shall be watching TV. Or a DVD. Or playing Wii. Or listening to my iPod. Or watching a movie off my iPod. If only my microwave worked with the Harmony remote… life would be perfect.

Good lord, does your computer also perform sexual favors? THEN it would be perfect.
Sweet… I have a similar setup in my office. Also, I have a Harmony One, they are amazing remotes.
Oh, and ASUS has made motherboards for years, are you sure you classify as a nerd?
LOL! You know, Pete, if anybody can get the remote to talk to the microwave, it will definitely be you!
Paulie in Rocky III had a robotic maid that responded to voice commands so I’m sure by now there’s got to be a much improved version, for 1/3rd the price. Wheel in a convenience toilet and you may never have to get up again.
