Pete, I don’t think it’s going to surprise you that I totally disagree with you. I have relatives that openly practice their racism every day, and they’re (ignorantly) proud of it.

I have a knitting friend who is black, and we went to this snooty yarn store, and the cashier followed her every where she went, but never followed me. I’ve seen that lots of times.

I can honestly say that I think of racisim on a daily basis. It has nothing to do with me liking, or disliking the black population in general and much more to do with the fact that while I went to an elementary school where there were 5 blacks to every white, and had many black friends, my daughter has been beat up on the playground at the apparments we live in 3 times since we moved in less than a month ago by 2 black children.

I have all the respect in the world for someone, any one of any color, who when confronted about a problem acts like an adult. But when I confront a childs mother about her son slapping my daughter in the face and the response I get is “Your daughter started it because my son is black, and I don’t have to take this shit because you’re white and just out to get me” (not an exact quote, but you get the point) I loose all respect.

So yes, I think about racisim because at 6 years old, my daughter is already experiancing it from the other side of things. I understand that it’s a person to person thing, and I am certainly not trying to target an entire race. But it does happen on an opposite side, even if the world would like to try to deny it.

Therefore, if race does not exist, by extension, racism is a farcical concept; hence, racists are merely a figment of our collective imaginations. Consequently, there is no such thing as race, Pete was right Americans are not racist, because there is no such thing! Wow, Pete you really are smart!
