Not being from Kansas I was completely bored with the entire KU thing. Then, on Saturday, rather than going to a friends wedding reception my husband and I went out to watch the final four game.

I officially have KU fever! Whoo hoo!

…it’s still kind of dumb.

But congratulations nevertheless! I was kind of pulling for the Jayhawks because I’m a fan of Danny Manning and the 1988 Kansas team that won the title that year. I think that was only about the 2nd or 3rd year that I really started paying attention to college basketball.

Don’t you know your Jayhawk history?

First of all, BASKETBALL was INVENTED at KU. Literally.

Lawrence was a quarry town back in the early days of KU, and the limestone that was quarried there was called “chalk rock” because of it’s powdery characteristics.

A professor at KU wanted a chant for the basketball team… it started out as Rah Rah Jayhawk, KU, but evolved into Rock Chalk Jayhawk over the first few years.
