Brass Dance Pays Off

For those of you unfamiliar with the phenomenon, who also didn’t happen to read the previous entry, the Brass Dance is the dance an individual does when a hot brass ejects from their gun and burns them. It typically happens when the brass goes down one’s shirt, bra, or pants, however in my case occured when a brass lodged in my safety glasses.

The Brass Dance is often done with a loaded firearm in one hand, which propels it past the Lombada to the status of “World’s Most Dangerous Dance.” (Dangerous for different reasons, but dangerous nonetheless.) Many innocent bystanders have been killed and maimed by people doing the Brass Dance, because frankly, when being given a 3rd degree burn by a piece of hot metal, one’s ability to reason and for that matter, care about anything else, goes completely out the window.

I remain the only case I’ve been able to find of someone being burned on the face, but perhaps someone else can find some stats.

Wednesday was my concealed carry training and qualification. The class was much more informative than I expected, mostly focused on the Kansas Personal Protection Act, and then perhaps more importantly, the “Use of Deadly Force.” We also learned that those of us foolish enough to get a permit will be held to the same standards as a police officer should we shoot someone. I could see several people making a mental note NOT to apply for their permit.

At the end of the day, we went in for the shooting range qualification test. We had to shoot 18 of 25 rounds at an FBI Q target. There wasn’t any shooting instruction, you were expected to already be able to shoot. I thought it was wise the Attorney General decided not to issue permits to people who couldn’t shoot.

Well, I’m happy to announce that I got a perfect score. 25/25 shots centermass. Practice payed off, in spite of the pain… Here’s my qualifying target:

It occurs to me that when you finally snap and go postal at work, you’ll be a hell of an accurate shot! But you know, anything worth doing, is worth doing RIGHT.
