Fight the Power
It’s hot and my head hurts.
Thanks for caring.

Did anyone else hear about the kid who was suspended from high school for talking on his cell phone? Ok, actually it was because he didn’t want to hang up.
It was his mom, who is serving in Iraq.
What kind of low-down, no good, sheep herding, unprepossessing jerkfaced lunatic makes a kid hang up on his active-duty mom?
It’s bad enough a teacher even questioned it, but the fact that he was suspended is just wrong. The school tried to make it sound like they were doing the kid a favor for not having him arrested.
ARRESTED!?!? What the heck? ARRESTED? For talking on the phone? To his mother? Who is in freaking Iraq?
I’ve heard some dumb things, but this one has to make the list for the most insane. The school officials were bent out of shape because he used profanity when they made him hang up. Duh. What do you expect? And since when can someone be arrested or suspended for cussing? If that rule was for real, juvenile hall would be full of every living highschooler.
Anyhow… the kid is suspended now, so I guess he can talk to his mom so long as she calls before he has to go back to school.

What jerks!
Perhaps the teacher involved should be sent to Iraq.
Unarmed
Jesus… what bullshit. This makes me angry. And, if people *could* get arrested for cussing, well… I’d be serving consecutive life sentences, I think.
Feygs.
I think that’s what Pete would call them, right?
They can suspend a kid for talking on a cell phone, but they can’t suspend a kid for pulling a knife out in the school and threatening people with it? Ridiculous. I’m bitter.
Pete? You have a sister? I would have sworn you were an only child……
What raving fucksticks. I hate to sound like I’m from CA (but I am!) but if I were him I’d get a lawyer. Surely they could have given him special permission to talk to his active-duty mom. AND to suspend him so close to the end of the year?
Assholes!
How much you want to bet the principal is a Liberal?
*tinkle*
DOUCHEBAG COCKSUCKING BUREAUCRATS! KEEL HAUL THE LOT OF THEM!!
Dude you have a sister? How old is she?

Elective Bible classes prompt concern
While a growing number of districts like Odessa promise to teach, not preach, critics fear classes erode line between church and state

ODESSA, Texas – This hardscrabble town of 90,000 on the West Texas oil patch famous for its obsession with high school football is becoming the new ground zero in a culture war.
The Ector County Independent School District unanimously approved an elective course in biblical literacy in April, an action underscoring the marked increase of such “Bible study” classes nationally. Constitutional scholars are concerned that these classes constitute a subtle erosion of what they see as the traditional and necessary wall of separation between church and state.

I usually don’t feel that litigation is the answer to school stupidity, but I certainly do in this case. The kid should definitely find a lawyer! How incredibly asinine!!
I don’t see how having an elective course could possibly be construed as “forcing” a child to take a religious class. Don’t like it, don’t take it. What’s amazing is that the schools can have mandatory sex ed classes, but people get upset about a voluntary class about the bible.
So the kid who was suspended for talking to his Mom in Iraq…
I bet it must’ve sucked for that principal when he tried to call the kid’s Mom in for a parent/teacher conference. That school has to sell a LOT of candy to pay for THAT long distance bill.
As for the elective bible classes, so wait let me get this straight, kids are forced to take classes on sociology and human sexuality that are repleat with rhetoric about what is and is not normal sexual behavior, such that it confirms an anti-biblical world view. However bible classes are an erosion of the separation of church and state.
Sorry but atheism is a form of religious thought.
